Education, AS

The Associate of Science (AS) degree in Education is a 62-credit transfer program that is housed in the Education department at SVCC. A Career Studies Certificate in Education is also available, with a total of 21 credit hours. The degree is designed for students who wish to begin studying toward a baccalaureate degree in teaching in K-6 grades. Students will be provided with opportunities within the degree program to achieve competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and basic computer use.

Early Childhood Career Studies Certificate

The Early Childhood Career Studies Certificate at Southside Virginia Community College provides foundational training for individuals seeking to begin or advance their careers in early childhood education. This 16-credit program prepares students to work effectively with young children in various educational and care settings, including preschools, childcare centers, and early intervention programs.

Teacher Academy - Dual Enrollment

The Teacher Academy at Southside Virginia Community College is a wonderful opportunity for high school seniors to gain real-world experience in the classroom while earning college credit. Students are able to explore early career options through observations within K-5 classrooms. All of the courses are Transfer Virginia courses and are accepted into education programs across the state. Through class discussions, projects, and presentations, high school students become an integral part of helping their home school divisions 'grow their own' teachers.
