What is Great Expectations?
Great Expectations provides academic support and guidance to current and future students who are in, or recently aged out of, the Virginia Foster Care System.
Goals of the program include:
To help young adults transition into college
To increase awareness about the value and availability of a college education
To assist students and service providers with accessing and successfully navigating the community college system
What services are available through this program?
Assistance with choosing an academic plan of study and college enrollment
Support throughout the financial aid process
Referrals to college and community resources for academic and personal issues
Referrals for tutoring services
A point person at the college to assist students in their academic journey
Who is eligible?
Students are eligible if they:
Are 17+ years old and currently in, or recently aged out of, the foster care system, or were a special needs adoption, or in foster care after age 13
Completed the academic admission process for the college, including filing financial aid forms, and registering for classes, and
Are (or will be) enrolled full time (12 credits or more) or part-time (less than 12 credits) at the college, or in a non-credit workforce program
