Employee Recognition Nominations

Southside Virginia Community College values the dedication and hard work of its employees. The Employee Recognition Program is designed to enhance morale and acknowledge outstanding contributions to the institution, to our students, and to the community.

This award is for the fiscal year from July 2025 to March 2026. Nominations will be accepted from February 16, 2026 through March 13, 2026.

We invite faculty and staff to nominate deserving employees who exemplify excellence in their roles.

Below is a list of the awards and their descriptions.

Honors a classified employee for outstanding service, professionalism, and commitment to the college’s mission.

Outstanding Adjunct Faculty

Acknowledges an adjunct faculty member for excellence in teaching, dedication to student success, and contributions to the academic environment.

Outstanding Administrative and Professional Faculty

Recognizes an administrative or professional faculty member for exceptional leadership, innovation, and service to the college.

Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award

Celebrates a faculty member who demonstrates exemplary teaching practices, engages students effectively, and fosters academic success.

Outstanding Faculty Scholarly and Creative Engagement Award

Honors a faculty member for significant contributions in research, scholarship, or creative endeavors that advance knowledge and learning.

Outstanding Faculty Institutional Responsibility Award

Recognizes an employee who has gone above and beyond in institutional service, governance, or leadership to support SVCC’s mission.

Outstanding Faculty Service

Acknowledges an employee who has made a meaningful impact in the broader community through service, outreach, or partnerships.


Please use the following Google Form to submit your nominations between Monday, February 16th and Friday, March 13, 2026.

Please submit a separate nomination for each category you are eligible to nominate. Pease notice that some categories have restrictions on who can nominate, in addition to who is eligible to be nominated.

Nominations will be reviewed for authenticity and you may receive follow-up questions before we move to the next stage in the process.

If you have questions about an employee's specific classification, please check with HR. Note, if you submit a nomination to the wrong classification, it will be moved to the appropriate award to ensure appropriate consideration.

Outstanding Wage (Part-Time) Employee

Outstanding Wage Employee

This award acknowledges outstanding service of a part-time staff member who has consistently excelled in his/her work during the fiscal year.

CRITERIA:

This award will be based on an employee's job performance, devotion to duty, and cooperation. The employee must:

  • Consistently and clearly surpass performance requirements of his/her position.

  • Make significant contributions toward reaching the college's strategic initiatives.

  • Reflect credit on SVCC - The nominee’s performance and achievements enhance the reputation, effectiveness, or mission of Southside Virginia Community College, regardless of whether the actions fall within routine job responsibilities.

  • Demonstrate dedication to the College and the community.

  • Exhibit a high level of initiative and cooperation in working with students, other employees, and the general public.

ELIGIBILITY:
  • All Wage Staff are eligible for this award regardless of their job classification and regardless of other awards received.

  • Must have been in their current position for one year.

  • Supervisor must approve the nomination.

  • A recipient would not be eligible if they received the Outstanding Wage Staff Award the previous year.

WHO MAY NOMINATE:

Any SVCC employee may make nominations for this award. Self-nominations are permitted.

Outstanding Classified (Full-Time) Staff Award

Outstanding Classified (Full-Time) Staff Award

This award acknowledges outstanding service of a full-time staff member who has consistently excelled in his/her work during the time period of the fiscal year.

CRITERIA:

This award will be based on an employee's job performance, devotion to duty, and cooperation. The employee must:

  • Reflect credit on SVCC - The nominee’s performance and achievements enhance the reputation, effectiveness, or mission of Southside Virginia Community College, regardless of whether the actions fall within routine job responsibilities.

  • Demonstrate dedication to the College and the community.

  • Exhibit a high level of leadership and cooperation in working with students, other employees, and the general public.

  • All Full-time Staff are eligible for this award regardless of their job classification and regardless of other awards received.

  • Must have been in their current position for one year.

  • Must have received an evaluation rating as “Contributor” on their most recent performance evaluation.

  • Supervisor must approve the nomination.

  • A recipient would not be eligible if they received the Outstanding Full-time Staff Award the previous year.

WHO MAY NOMINATE:

Any SVCC employee may make nominations for this award. Self-nominations are permitted.

Faculty Teaching Award

Faculty Teaching Effectiveness Award

These awards acknowledge exemplary achievements, contributions, or activities in the area of Teaching Effectiveness during the time period of July 2025 to current date.

CRITERIA:

Awarded to a member of the full-time teaching faculty whose performance in the classroom or other instructional environment best exemplifies effectiveness in promoting student achievement, including but not limited to:

  • Conducting extraordinary or innovative learning activities to the benefit of students.

  • Designing creative instructional materials with real world application.

  • Developing delivery modalities that expand student access.

  • Demonstrating exceptional achievement of student learning outcomes.

ELIGIBILITY:

The faculty member selected must:

  • Be a full-time faculty member.

  • Have taught at SVCC for a minimum of one year.

  • Must have received an evaluation rating of “Meets Expectations” on the most recent evaluation.

  • Supervisor must approve the nomination.

  • A recipient would not be eligible one year after receiving the Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award.

  • A faculty member may receive no more than 1 faculty recognition award per academic year.

WHO MAY NOMINATE:

Nominations may come from any faculty member, dean or supervisor. Until otherwise amended by the State Board, this provision requires that nominations from individuals other than the faculty member or the dean/supervisor must be endorsed by the dean/supervisor.

Faculty Scholarly and Creative Engagement Award

Faculty Scholarly and Creative Engagement Award

These awards acknowledge exemplary achievements, contributions, or activities in the area of Scholarly and Creative Engagement during the time period of July 2025 to current date.

CRITERIA:

Awarded to a member of the full-time teaching faculty who has achieved a significant academic scholarly accomplishment through research, publishing and/or professional presentations, grant activity, or creative works, including but not limited to:

  • Research in the teaching discipline, instructional pedagogy, or instructional technology.

  • Publication in newspapers, magazines, scholarly journals, or other recognized media.

  • Receipt of a major grant or significant contribution to grant development and/or review.

  • Production or public exposition of creative works in visual arts, performing arts, musical arts, literary arts, or other fine arts.

  • Presentation and/or major speech at professional organizations or events.

  • Honors, awards, certifications and licenses, or recognition from professional organizations.

  • Professional development or continuing education beyond requirements for the teaching position .

ELIGIBILITY:

The faculty member selected must:

  • Be a full-time faculty member.

  • Have taught at SVCC for a minimum of one year.

  • Must have received an evaluation rating of “Meets Expectations” on the most recent evaluation.

  • Supervisor must approve the nomination.

  • A recipient would not be eligible one year after receiving the Outstanding Faculty Scholarly and Creative Engagement Award.

  • A faculty member may receive no more than 1 faculty recognition award per academic year.

Faculty Institutional Responsibility Award

Faculty Institutional Responsibility Award

These awards acknowledge exemplary achievements, contributions, or activities in the area of Institutional Responsibility during the time period of July 2025 to current date.

CRITERIA:

Awarded to a member of the full-time teaching faculty who has achieved a major accomplishment of significant or world-class quality that furthers the college's achievement of its strategic priorities, including but not limited to:

  • Providing leadership for a major strategic initiative.

  • Chairing a committee or task force that leads to a significant improvement in student success, business processes, or instructional quality.

  • Significant attendance and contribution to committee(s).

  • Singularly or jointly achieving a major accomplishment of significant or world-class quality that supports the college's strategic plan or the strategic goals of the VCCS.

ELIGIBILITY:

The faculty member selected must:

  • Be a full-time faculty member.

  • Have taught at SVCC for a minimum of one year.

  • Must have received an evaluation rating of “Meets Expectations” on the most recent evaluation.

  • Supervisor must approve the nomination.

  • A recipient would not be eligible one year after receiving the Outstanding Faculty Institutional Responsibility Award.

  • A faculty member may receive no more than 1 faculty recognition award per academic year.

WHO MAY NOMINATE:

Nominations may come from any faculty member, dean or supervisor. Until otherwise amended by the State Board, this provision requires that nominations from individuals other than the faculty member or the dean/supervisor must be endorsed by the dean/supervisor.

Faculty Service Award

Faculty Service Award

These awards acknowledge exemplary achievements, contributions, or activities in the area of Community Impact during the time period of July 2025 to current date.

CRITERIA:

Awarded to a member of the full-time teaching faculty who has greatly impacted the college's image through community service and/or involvement, including but not limited to:

  • Involvement in a community event such as charity fundraisers, events to foster diversity awareness, or other events designed to benefit the local community.

  • Volunteerism at a local community agency, school, or church.

  • Service on the board of a local community service agency.

ELIGIBILITY:

The faculty member selected must:

  • Be a full-time faculty member.

  • Have taught at SVCC for a minimum of one year.

  • Must have received an evaluation rating of “Meets Expectations” on the most recent evaluation.

  • Supervisor must approve the nomination.

  • A recipient would not be eligible one year after receiving the Outstanding Faculty Service Award.

  • A faculty member may receive no more than 1 faculty recognition award per academic year.

WHO MAY NOMINATE:

Nominations may come from any faculty member, dean or supervisor. Until otherwise amended by the State Board, this provision requires that nominations from individuals other than the faculty member or the dean/supervisor must be endorsed by the dean/supervisor.

Outstanding Adjunct Award

Outstanding Adjunct Award

This award acknowledges outstanding service of any employee who has consistently excelled in his/her work during July 2025 to current date.

CRITERIA:

This award will be based on an employee’s job performance, devotion to duty, and cooperation. The employee must:

  • Have overall satisfactory syllabus reviews as indicated on the syllabus review for the semester prior to nomination.

Adjuncts may be nominated based on any of the following criteria:

  1. Teaching effectiveness. This most important criterion can be broken down into further sub-categories that might include the following:

    1. Subject matter knowledge

    2. Classroom demeanor/presentation of material

    3. Fairness

    4. Compassion and/or the way he/she treats students

    5. Excellent course and instructor evaluations

    6. Developing/revising assessments (tests, etc.) to better measure course learning objectives

  2. Increased utilization of instructional technology.

  3. Efforts to recruit and/or retain students.

  4. Updating and revising course materials in order to stay abreast of the latest developments in their teaching field.

ELIGIBILITY:
  • All Adjuncts are eligible for this award regardless of their job classification and regardless of other awards received.

  • Must have completed a minimum of four semesters at SVCC as an adjunct instructor.

  • Performance meets expectations as approved by the Dean or supervisor.

  • The Dean must approve the nomination.

  • A recipient would not be eligible if they received the Outstanding Adjunct Award the previous year.

WHO MAY NOMINATE:

Any SVCC employee may make nominations for this award. Self-nominations are permitted.

AWARD AMOUNT: $775

This award acknowledges outstanding service of an administrative and professional faculty member who has consistently excelled in his/her work during the time period of July 1, 2025 to current date.

CRITERIA:

This award will be based on an employee's job performance, devotion to duty, and cooperation. The employee must:

  • Consistently and clearly surpass performance requirements of his/her position.

  • Make significant contributions toward reaching the college's strategic initiatives.

  • Reflect credit on SVCC - The nominee’s performance and achievements enhance the reputation, effectiveness, or mission of Southside Virginia Community College, regardless of whether the actions fall within routine job responsibilities.

  • Demonstrate dedication to the College and the community.

  • Exhibit a high level of leadership and cooperation in working with students, other employees, and the general public.

ELIGIBILITY:
  • All Administrative and Professional Faculty are eligible for this award regardless of their job classification and regardless of other awards received, except for the Vice President positions. (listed as "Administration" in the Catalog)

  • Must have been in their current position for one year.

  • Must have received an evaluation rating of “Meets Expectations” on the most recent evaluation.

  • Supervisor must approve the nomination.

  • A recipient would not be eligible if they received the Outstanding Administrative and Professional Faculty Award the previous year.

WHO MAY NOMINATE:

Any SVCC employee may make nominations for this award. Self-nominations are permitted.

AWARD AMOUNT: $1,500
